How to split transactions in Spend Center before syncing to your accounting system.

You can split a transaction in Spend Center in order to categorize multiple dollar amounts separately. For example, an employee could make a large purchase from a single vendor for multiple departments. You could split each dollar amount and add a custom field for each department to show how the transaction should be allocated in your accounting system.

Notes:

  • You can only split cleared transactions.

  • When exporting split transactions, they display as separate transactions and the parent transaction also displays.

  • If you split a transaction that has already been synced to your accounting integration, it is recommended that you delete the original, un-split transaction from your accounting system. If you sync a split transaction, Spend Center will send two transactions to the accounting system but will not delete a previously synced, un-split transaction.

Web Browser

  1. In the Navigation Menu, click the Transactions link.

  2. Click the transaction you want to split. You can only split cleared transactions.

  3. Open the More menu and select the Split transaction option.

  4. When splitting a transaction, you can view the total dollar amount and the remaining balance that hasn't been assigned to a split category.

  5. To split by dollar amount, click the Amount option. To split by percentage, click the Percentage option.

  6. You can split the transaction by entering amounts or percentages manually or splitting the transaction evenly. If amounts or percentages cannot be split evenly, the remainder is added to one of the split categories.

    1. To split the transaction manually, enter the amounts or percentages in the Split fields. To add additional fields, click the Add a Split link.

    2. To split the transaction evenly, click the Split Evenly toggle button. Enter the number of splits you want to include. The amounts or percentages display in the Split fields automatically.

  7. Click the Confirm button.

  8. You can then categorize the split transactions with their corresponding custom fields. Receipts will still be attached to the parent transaction.

  9. To edit the split transaction, open the transaction from the Transactions page. Click the Options icon. To edit how the transaction is split, click the Edit split transaction link. To unsplit the transaction, click the Unsplit transaction link.

Mobile App

  1. In the Navigation Bar, tap the Transactions icon. If the Transactions icon is not in your Navigation Bar, tap the More icon, then tap the Transactions link.

  2. Tap the transaction you want to split. You can only split transactions after they have been cleared.

  4. When splitting a transaction, you can view the total dollar amount and the remaining balance that hasn't been assigned to a split category.

  5. To split by dollar amount, tap the Amount icon. To split by percentage, tap the Percentage icon.

  6. You can split the transaction by entering amounts or percentages manually or splitting the transaction evenly. If amounts or percentages cannot be split evenly, the remainder is added to one of the split categories.

    1. To split the transaction manually, enter the amounts or percentages in the Split fields. To add additional fields, tap the Add a Split link.

    2. To split the transaction evenly, tap the Split Evenly toggle button. Enter the number of splits you want to include in the How Many Times field. The amounts or percentages display in the Split fields automatically.

  7. Tap the Save link.

  8. You can then categorize the split transactions with their corresponding custom fields. Receipts will still be attached to the parent transaction.
